When I started my DIY woodworking journey 10 years ago, I didn’t know a thing about DIY or woodworking. I was a CPA working in accounting and I really felt like something was missing in my daily life.

The thought of power tools, DIY, and woodworking definitely sounded intimidating and out of my league, like it was more of a rugged guy thing. I’m so glad those initial thoughts didn’t keep me from discovering one of my greatest passions.

There was no clear path for learning, but after doing lots of research, watching YouTube videos, and plenty of trial and error, I figured out how to use power tools and built my first project, a farm table. What do I need to take this course? A bunch of expensive tools?

To build DIY projects, you will need the 5 essential woodworking tools for beginners listed below. These tools can be borrowed or purchased if you don't already own them. Tool prices can vary greatly, but you can start with the budget friendly ones!

>> Brad nailer
>> Kreg jig (or Kreg Mini/Junior/320)
>> Miter saw
>> Orbital sander
Tools are an investment that will last many years and be used on many projects, saving you a lot of money!
You will also need some important small hand tools and personal protection equipment (ex. tape measure, safety glasses, stud finder, etc). These are lower cost items and you may already own several of them.
Finally, to build a project, you will need project supplies, including the wood and building materials, for at least one project. The lumber for each of the 3 projects examples costs about $100 or less depending on amount/type used and the project you choose to build.
